How a claim works

What happens from first call to settlement, and what to have ready.

  1. Report the loss

Call us with your policy details and what happened.

  2. Inspect

A surveyor or assessor visits the cargo, vehicle or site.

  3. Document

Damage is photographed, measured and written up.

  4. Settle

The report goes to the insurer and the claim is settled.

Have ready when you call

  • Your policy number and the insurer's name
  • A short description of what happened, with date and place
  • Photographs of the damage, if you can take them safely
  • Any shipping or vehicle documents you hold

Common questions

Should I repair or move anything first?

Where possible, keep the cargo or vehicle as it is until it has been inspected, so the damage can be recorded accurately. Call us first if you are unsure.

Which service applies to my loss?

Damaged or short cargo needs a marine cargo survey. A vehicle accident needs a motor claims assessment. Other losses are handled through loss adjusting.

Can I ask about my policy before a loss?

Yes. Our insurance consulting covers policy review and guidance on what your cover includes.
